Imagine shelf (hence name): reinforced underwires form rigid semi-circle passing under each breast and rising on sides to straps. This semi-circle supports bust weight by "resting" it on top, as shelf supports object.

Straps play crucial role: they must be wide (minimum 2cm, ideally 3cm for full busts) and well-adjusted to pull slightly upward and create lift effect. Back with multiple hooks (3 minimum) allows adjusting horizontal tension maintaining underwires well-positioned.

With these specifications, support is excellent and you can wear your shelf bra several hours without discomfort or sagging sensation.

G cups and above
Open bras for very full bust are rarer as technically complex. They exist but require more advanced technique. If you find model suitable for your cup, absolutely verify all support elements mentioned above, and favour brands specialising in plus-size lingerie.

Some women with G+ cups prefer wearing classic support bra invisible under open bodysuit, rather than integrated shelf bra: it's perfectly valid solution ensuring support AND open aesthetic.

Comfortable wearing duration
